Apart from being an outstanding diver, Jersey’s George Yvon was a fine swimmer and leading amateur boxer. In 1912, Yvon reached the quarter-final of the featherweight division at the Amateur Boxing Association (ABA) Championships. Four months later, he finished fifth in the platform diving competition at the Stockholm Olympics. Yvon took part in each of the three ABA Championships leading up to World War I (1912-14), and also the first one after the hostilities, in 1919. Yvon was a journalist, working locally in Jersey and also for the Sporting Life.
