Peter Bruch won the bronze medal with the East German 4x100 freestyle relay at the 1972 München Olympics. He also claimed the same medal in that event at the 1973 Belgrade World Championships. In München Bruch also finished sixth with the 4x200 freestyle relay and failed to make the finals of the 100 and 200 m freestyles. He later became a graduated sports teacher and worked with his home club SC Dynamo Berlin. After re-unification Bruch was employed by a security company.
