Biography

German Elisabeth Rechlin, later the wife of water polo player Wilfried Bode, was a freestyle swimmer. She reached the semi-finals of the 100 metres freestyle and was eliminated in the heats in the 400 freestyle at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. With the 4x100 relay team she finished seventh. Rechlin won four national titles in the 100 and 400 freestyle in 1951 and 1952 and added a third 100 metres title in 1953. She also won the 1950 and the 1952 free water titles over 100 and 400. At the 1954 Europeans she was a bronze medalist with the 4x100 metres relay team.
