Biography
German backstroke and IM swimmer Cathleen Rund, daughter of Evelyn Stolze and Peter Rund, won the 200 metres backstroke bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. She was eliminated in the heats of the IM 400 metres. Four years later at Sydney, Rund placed 11th in the 200 metres backstroke. At the 1993 World Short-Course Championships she won another bronze, in the 200 metres backstroke. At European Championships, she won two medals of each colour.
Rund won German national titles at 200 metres backstroke in 1995-96 and 1999, and over 200 metres IM in 1997. She later married swimming coach Oliver Großmann (but was divorced in 2017). Ruud turned to open water swimming and won the German national title over 10 km in 2006. She studied sports at Berlin and became a graduated swimming coach. She was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.
