West German diver Günther Haase participated in the platform event at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, winning the bronze medal. In 1950 he won the European Championships, and he won German national platform titles eight times in 1943, 1947-51 and 1955-56. He was married to non-Olympian Paula Tatarek, a 10-times German diving champion. Both immigrated to the United States.
