Biography

German diver Heinz Plumanns finished eighth in the springboard event at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympic Games. He forfeited his start in the platform event in favor of his friend Karl Schumm, who had missed the Olympic qualifiers. From 1928-30 Plumanns was the German platform champion, and in 1929 was also the springboard champion. He was also a keen swimmer and water polo player.

He later became long-time chairman of the Regional Swimming District, Middle Rhine (1953-63 and 1971-73), and a plaque remembering his outstanding contribution to swimming activities in the district of Middle Rhine was placed in his honour in 1996. Plumanns owned a printing house in the city of Cologne.
