German backstroke and IM swimmer Stev Theloke won bronze medals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the 100 metres backstroke and 4x100 IM relay. Four years earlier in Atlanta, he reached the B-finals over 100 metres backstroke (14th) and 200 metres IM (12th). Theloke also swam the heats with the 4x100 IM relay. In 1998, he won the 100 metres backstroke bronze medal at the World Championships.
At European Championships Theloke was even more successful, winning ten golds (among them seven individual titles over 50 and 100 metres backstroke), seven silver and four bronze medals. In 2005, Theloke was banned from the national team, and the World Championships, due to critical comments about the German Swimming Association. At German Championships, he won a total of 19 national titles. Theloke was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. By profession, he became a personal trainer and swimming coach at Chemnitz.
