Biography

Romanian-born Timea Toth began her swimming career at the age of five and eventually set Romanian national records in butterfly events, competing for her hometown club of ILSA Timișoara. She immigrated to Israel in 1989, where she established national records in both freestyle and butterfly and represented her new country at the 1991 World Championships. At this tournament she was 30th in the 100 m freestyle, 22nd in the 100 m butterfly, and 26th in the 200 m butterfly. After setting more national records at the Olympic trials, she was selected as part of Israel’s delegation to the 1992 Summer Olympics. At the Games she competed in the 100 and 200 meter butterfly events, finishing joint-29th (with Nataliya Yakovleva of the Unified Team) and 20th out a field of 49 and 33 competitors respectively. Toth retired from active competition shortly after the Olympics and became a physical education instructor and swimming coach.
