Marny Jolly was born in Hong Kong to an English family. They moved to Singapore when she was a kid, and she started swimming there. She represented Malaysia at the 1964 Olympics, as Singapore had become part of Malaysia in 1963 (it became independent again in 1965). After the Olympics, she emigrated to the United States.
