Biography

Before becoming a lawyer and an ambassador, Augusto Ferrero had a noted career as a competitive swimmer. Born in Lima in 1944, Ferrero went on to study law, graduating in 1968. Whilst at university he became a talented swimmer, earning himself a place on the Peruvian national team. He swam at the 1963 Pan American Games and the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, featuring in the 4 × 100 metres freestyle relay at the latter.

By 1974 Ferrero had graduated with a doctorate in law, eventually becoming the dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at the University of Lima. In addition to working as a professor and authoring several books on law, he was appointed to the post of ambassador to Italy in 2009 by the Peruvian government. In 2017 Ferrero joined the Constitutional Court, becoming their Vice-President in 2019 and eventually serving as their President in 2022.
