Gavriil Kachalin was a Russian football player and coach. He started his player career in 1928 with Volny Trud, then he played for Gomel FC, Dynamo Gomel, and, between 1936-42, FC Dynamo Moscow. During his career Kachalin played in 36 Soviet Top League matches, winning the League title in 1937 and 1940 and the Soviet Cup in 1937. He coached FC Dinamo Tbilisi to their first Soviet Top League title in 1964 and they also finished third twice, in 1971 and 1972.
Internationally, Kachalin coached the Soviet Union national team to their greatest results, winning both the 1956 Olympic gold medal and 1960 European Football Championship. He also coached them in three World Cups, 1958, 1962, and 1970, but the team was eliminated in the quarter-finals on each occasion.
