Dan Schachte was an ice hockey referee who officiated at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. He had a 30-year career as an NHL linesman, retiring in 2012, and worked 2,009 NHL regular season games beginning in 1982, ranking fifth all-time in the NHL, and first among American born officials. He also worked 221 Stanley Cup playoff games and refereed at five Stanley Cup finals (1997-98, 2000-02). Internationally, besides the 2002 Winter Olympics, Schachte officiated at the 1991 Canada Cup and the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.
