Biography
Ernest Wilson hailed from Lisburn in Northern Ireland. He played cricket and was secretary of the Lisburn Cricket Club, and was captain of the second XI between 1901-05, leading them to victory over Ballymena in the Junior Cup final in 1903. Wilson also played hockey and was goalkeeper for the Lisburn second team. He was also the honorary secretary of the Ulster Branch of the Irish Hockey Union and was the first person from the area to be selected as an international umpire. At the 1908 London Olympics he officiated in the semi-final between England and Scotland.
Shortly after the outbreak of World War I, Wilson emigrated to the United States with his wife and young son. He died in New Jersey in 1923 at the age of 44.
