German figure skater Erika Schiechtl competed during the 1950s with her future husband Hermann, with the pair winning bronze at the 1952 national championships. Following her competitive career Schiechtl became an international judge and referee with both the German Figure Skating Council and the International Skating Union (ISU). She officiated at multiple ISU world and European events during her career as well as the Winter Olympics in Innsbruck (1964), Grenoble (1968), and Sapporo (1972).
