Giuseppe Carpani started refereeing in 1931, and from 1940-53 officiated in 100 Serie A matches, the last being on 12 April 1953 in the match between Napoli and Bologna. From 1948-53 Carpani was a FIFA international referee, and officiated in one match at the 1948 London Olympics. He won the Giovanni Mauro Award as Best Referee of the Year, in 1950.
