Maria Zuchowicz

Maria Zuchowicz was a Polish lawyer, figure skating judge, and television commentator. From 1948 to 1952 Zuchowicz was a member of the national figure skating team before becoming a referee in the sport in 1956. She then spent the next 40 years officiating at major competitions, including national, European, and World championships, and four editions of the Winter Olympics. She was also an honorary member of the International Skating Union (ISU), and served as the Vice-President of the Polish Figure Skating Association. With her background in law Zuchowicz served as the President of the Court of Arbitration for Sport at the Polish Olympic Committee and as a judge with the International Court of Arbitration for Sport. She later worked for the Polish television network TVP where she commentated on figure skating events. In 2015 Zuchowicz was honoured with the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for her work for the Olympic Movement.
