Biography

While growing up during World War II, Canadian figure skater Pierrette Devine would spend many hours training at the Minto Skating Club in Ottawa. In her younger days Devine was part of the Minto Follies ice show, with her also finishing third in the junior women’s event at the 1945 Canadian Championships. She then focused on ice dancing where she finished on the podium on multiple occasions at the Canadian championships in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Devine would travel all over North America to compete in competitions from everywhere from Lake Placid to British Columbia.

In the early 1950s Devine had become interested in judging skating events rather than competing in them. She was just 22-years-old when she became a national judge in 1952, officiating at the Canadian and North American Championships the following year. In 1957 she officiated at the World Championships, becoming the first Canadian woman to judge at an ISU event. Devine continued to judge at World, North American, and Canadian championships throughout the 1960s and 1970s, including judging multiple events at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics. She later worked as a coach, with Jaimee Eggleton being one of her many students.
