The son of a Manchester printer, William Ros Sharp left school at 14 to become an accountant’s clerk and he went on to become a leading incorporated accountant and official receiver, handling a lot of bankruptcy proceedings. After World War I he moved from Manchester to London and continued to work in his own practice, Greenhalgh, Sharp & Company. Sharp was also a figure skater and was a member of the Manchester Skating Club before World War I, and later became a skating judge.
