Biography

Following a brief career as an ice dancer Wolfgang Kunz became a judge and referee with the International Skating Union (ISU). As a skater Kunz competed in the ice dance competition with Jutta Peters at the 1965 European Championships. He then began to officiate in ice dancing and figure skating at ISU events and the Olympics, including the 1980 Lake Placid Games. He served as a member of the ISU’s dance technical committee from 1980 to 1996 before becoming the organisations chair until 1998. In 1979 Kunz founded a skating club in his home town of Würzburg, Germany and led the German skating team at the 1992 Albertville Olympics.
