Paul Pfund was a German painter and graphic artist. He studied at the Berlin Art Academy from 1919-24. In the 1930s he lived in Berlin-Wilmersdorf and worked as a designer for Deutsche Lufthansa, amongst others. He created numerous book covers, including books by later exiled journalist Egon Erwin Kisch (1885-1948). From 1933-45, Pfund was president of the Professional Association of German Communication Designers, a member of the “Reichskulturkammer” (Reich Chamber of Culture) and the anti-Semitic “Kampfbund für deutsche Kultur” (Militant League for German Culture).
After World War II, Pfund was probably imprisoned in the Soviet Special Camp No. 7/1 on the site of the former Nazi concentration camp Oranienburg-Sachsenhausen. Nothing is known about his further fate.
