Biography

Arthur Bischoff, one of five children, attended school in St. Gallen and after that he started his education as chimney sweep in the company of his father. After finishing he spent some years in Engadin and returned in 1922 to join the family business, which he took over in 1936. Before that he led the cadets corps in St. Gallen for four years and from 1929-36 lived with his wife in Davos, where they ran the lido Davos and he also worked as swimming teacher. Bischoff was a good swimmer, gymnast, and cross-country skier but his favorite sport was diving. Bischoff was a Swiss champion in springboard (1923-29) and high diving (1925, 1927) and also participated in two Olympics (1924 / 1928). He also competed successfully in some international matches especially in Italy. In his later life he enjoyed the summertime at Bodensee (Lake Constance) and loved to spend time with his two grandchildren.
