Little is known about Elis Holmer. The son of an engineer, Holmer competed in plain high diving at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm but did not advance to the final.
Holmer married Elsa Augusta (née Boivie), and together they had one son. When she died young from tuberculosis, he married Gurli Vilhelmina Nilsson.
