The 1980 Olympic Games were the only international tournament for Ukrainian Vladimir Dolgov where he won bronze in the 100 backstroke and was fourth in his heat of the 200 back. Domestically, at the Soviet championships, Dolgov won three Soviet titles (1979 200 back, 1982-83 medley relay) and three bronzes (1978 medley relay, 1981-82 100 back).
