Biography

Vladimir Kravchenko was a Russian competitive swimmer who specialised in the medley events. From 1967 to 1971 Kravchenko was the Soviet champion in the 200 metres medley and also won the 400 metres title in 1968. During this period he also set five Soviet records and became the European record holder in the 200 metres medley in 1970. At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics he swam in both the 200 and 400 metres medley races, finishing 13th and 14th, respectively. His future wife, Tamara Sosnova, also swam for the Soviet Union at the Mexico City Games. Kravchenko continued to swim throughout his life and won multiple medals and titles in the masters category.
