Biography

Sharon Finneran was a member of a well-known swimming family. Her brother, Mike Finneran, was a diver on the 1972 Olympic team and her mother was a team official at the 1976 Games. Sharon swam for Santa Clara High School and the Los Angeles AC and was a truly versatile competitor. In 1962 she won the AAU titles both indoors and out in her Olympic event (400 IM), she twice won the AAU 200m butterfly outdoors, and was a good enough distance freestyler to win the AAU indoor title over 1,650y in 1964. In addition to winning these national titles she was the 400m freestyle champion at the 1963 Pan-American Games.
