Suzy Jones swam with the Santa Clara Swim Club and attended UCLA, graduating in 1971 with a degree in political science. In 1975 she returned to her hometown of Palo Alto, California and became swim coach and aquatic director at a local country club in Portola Valley, California. In 1976 she resumed swimming and swam in masters meets for 25 years, finally stepping out of the pool in 2001. During that time she set world records in the 50, 100, and 200 metre breaststroke events. In 1988 Jones, by then Susan Roy, started The Susan Roy Swim School in Los Altos, California, where she trained 100s of swimmers of all ages. The school expanded with Roy giving private lessons at local clubs and private pools.
