Although Adelaide Lambert, of the Women’s Swimming Association of New York, placed third in the 100m backstroke at the 1928 Final Trials, she did not take part in this event at the Olympics and competed only in the relay. With the US 4x100 free relay, Lambert was part of two world records, in addition to winning a gold medal. Lambert was born in the Panama Canal Zone, where she learned to swim and she became all-around Canal Zone swimming champion.
Lambert later won seven AAU titles in freestyle, backstroke, and individual medley. She won the 1923 AAU 100y freestyle, the 1926-27 220y backstroke, and the 1925 300y IM and 1926 300m IM titles outdoors. To these individual crowns she added an outdoor relay championship in the 1929 4x200 yard freestyle relay, with the Women’s SA. Lambert also won one indoor title, in the 1927 300 yard IM.
