Ashley Tappin

Ashley Tappin was a sprint freestyler who won three relay gold medals at the Olympics, winning the 4x100 free relay in 1992 and 2000 and the medley relay in 2000. At the 1991 Pan American Games Tappin won three gold medals, in the 100 freestyle, the 4x100 free relay, and the medley relay. Tappin started college at the University of Florida but later transferred to the University of Arizona. She won six NCAA titles in all, one at Florida, and five at Arizona. Tappin was inducted into the University of Arizona Hall of Fame in 2005.

Tappin later spent time in Los Angeles, doing modeling, and then served as the head swim coach at the University of New Orleans from 2004-07. She and her husband, Russell Doussan, had twin daughters, Beau and Hartley. Hartley was born with a heart defect and Down’s syndrome and Tappin made this her cause. She started Hartley’s Hearts Foundation, a charitable group that raises funds to send doctors overseas to perform pediatric heart surgery.
