Amy White was only a 15-year-old sophomore at University High School in Irvine, California when she competed at the 1984 Olympics, but she still won a silver medal in the 200 backstroke. She had won gold in the event at the 1983 Pan American Games when she was only 14. White won the 1984 US title in 200 backstroke, after finishing second in 1983. White later attended Southern Methodist University, but stopped swimming after her sophomore year due to back injuries. She later became a paralegal in the Southern California area, where she met her husband, a lawyer with the firm she was working for.
