Chris Cavanaugh swam at Southern Cal, graduating in 1985. A sprinter, Cavanaugh won gold medals in the 4x100 freestyle relay at the 1982 World Championships and the 1983 Pan American Games, in addition to his 1984 Olympic gold medal. Cavanaugh set two world records in the 50 freestyle in 1980. He later coached masters and club swimmers in Southern California, and did charity work for Swim Across America, which raises money for cancer.
