Basketball player Antonietta Baistrocchi was born in Italy’s capital Roma. She went on to win 99 caps with the Italian team, and her best finish was fifth in the 1979 World Championships in Seoul, which was boycotted by the Eastern European countries. She played alongside other fellow 1980 Olympians like Lidia Gorlin, Mariangela Piancastelli and Roberta Faccin. Baistrocchi died of cancer at just 38.
