A sprint freestyler, David Fox won multiple international medals in those events and relays, including a gold medal in the 4x100 freestyle relay at the 1996 Olympics. He won gold medals in the 4x100 free at the 1993 and 1995 Pan Pacific Championships and the 1993 Universiade, adding another relay gold at the Universiade in the medley relay. He also won a silver medal in the 4x100 free at the 1993 World Championships. Individually, Fox won the 50 and 100 freestyles at the 1993 Universiade. At the Pan Pacific Championships he won silver in the 50 free in 1995 and bronze in that event in 1997.
Fox swam in college at North Carolina State University, where he won one NCAA Championship and seven individual Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, adding eight ACC titles in relays. A native of Raleigh, he was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.
Fox retired from swimming after the 1996 Atlanta Games, and earned a masters’ degree from the University of North Carolina. While there, he served as an assistant coach for the Tar Heels swim team. He later settled in Atlanta with his family, where he joined Goldman Sachs, working for them as a managing director.
