Royce Sharp was a backstroker who swam at the University of Michigan. He had been a high school star at the Peddie School in New Jersey, winning the Eastern Interscholastics in the 100 yd backstroke as both a junior and senior. Sharp swam the 200 back at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, but missed the finals. He later won a gold medal in his specialty, the 200 back, at the 1993 Pan Pacifics, and added a bronze medal in the event at the 1994 World Championships.
