Bob Skelton, of the Illinois AC, won four AAU titles, outdoors in the 200 breaststroke in 1922-23, and indoors in that event, yard equivalent, in 1921 and 1923. In 1924 he became the first American to set a world record for the 200 metre breaststroke. He also set nine American breaststroke records, most of them indoors. Skelton swam for the Illinois AC and Northwestern University.
