Rod Strachan of Southern Cal won the 400m IM at the Final Trials with a new U.S. record, then went on to set a new world record in winning the Olympic title. In college, Strachan had a 3.96 grade point average, which helped earn him admission to Southern Cal’s medical school. He became a doctor, specializing in internal medicine.
