Chris Woo was a breaststroker from Hawai’i who studied at Punahou School and then at UCLA, where he would win the 1979 Pac 10 title in the 100 yard breaststroke. His 1976 mark of 55.99 for the 100 yard breaststroke was a high school record that stood until broken in 1992 by future Olympic breaststroke champion Nelson Diebel. At the 1976 Olympics, Woo swam only in the heats of the medley relay, but in heat two he helped the US set a world record of 3:47.28, which was then broken in the final by the US team. After college Woo studied dentistry at Indiana University, eventually becoming a dentist with a general and cosmetic practice in Honolulu.
