Bill Woolsey was a finalist in the 100 m freestyle in the 1956 Olympics. While at Indiana University he was twice an NCAA champion and he won four AAU titles and was named an All-American eight times. At the 1959 Pan American Games he won bronze in the 100 m freestyle. Woolsey often worked out in the Pacific Ocean and Waikiki War Memorial Natatorium.
Woolsey ran several business ventures and the Woolsey Poi company had a farm in the Manoa Valley. He taught swimming at Kaneohe District Park. Later in life he moved to California where he continued to teach swimming. Woolsey was inducted into the Hawai’i Sports Hall of Fame. His grandson, Ikaika Woolsey, became a quarterback at the University of Hawaii.
