Carl Henkel grew up playing volleyball as a lifelong resident of the South Bay. He played collegiately at UCLA, where he made All-America and helped them win the NCAA Championship in 1989. He spent 11 years playing beach volleyball professionally, but also received a Master of Laws degree from the University of San Diego, and a JD from Whittier Law School. After passing the California Bar in 2001, he set up his own real estate company, Henkel Properties.
