Clarissa Davis played college basketball at the University of Texas, where she was named the Naismith Player of the Year as a sophomore and senior, in 1987 and 1989. As a freshman, she was named the Most Outstanding Player at the 1986 Final Four, when she led Texas to the title to end an undefeated (34-0) season. She was later named the NCAA and Southwest Conference Team of the Decade for the 1980s. In addition to her 1992 Olympic appearance, she also played for the USA internationally at the 1986 World Championship, the 1987 Pan American Games, and the 1986 and 1994 Goodwill Games.
Davis then played professionally overseas, with Galatasaray Istanbul and Fenerbahçe Istanbul, helping both clubs win Turkish Championships. In 1999 she was drafted in the second round of the WNBA draft by the Phoenix Mercury. Past her prime she played one season in the league with the Mercury.
Davis then entered coaching and basketball administration. She worked for the San Antonio Spurs from 1999-2002, helping San Antonio obtain a WNBA franchise, later named the San Antonio Silver Stars, for whom she served as Chief Operating Officer from 2002-06. She then was an assistant coach for the University of Texas in the 2006/07 season before taking a similar position with Rutgers University. Davis was inducted into the Women’s Baskeball Hall of Fame in 2006. She is the founder of TeamXpress, a sports-oriented mentoring group for girls in San Antonio.
