Volleyball player Hanka Pachale was the sister of Maja – also a volleyballer – and the daughter of discus thrower Siegfried Pachale. She took part in the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games where the German teams finished sixth and eighth, respectively. She also participated in the 1998 Worlds and the 1997 and 2001 Europeans, eventually earning 120 caps.
Until 1998 Pachale played in her hometown of Schwerin but then moved to Italy, winning the Champions League with Volley Modena in 2001 and with Colussi Perugia in 2008. After a brief stage in France with RC Cannes she returned to Italy for her last season in 2011. In 2013 she married former Italian national player Luca Durante, moved back to Schwerin and eventually owned an Italian gourmet food shop.
