Magdolna Gulyás started playing basketball in high school. She helped Hungary win the 1967 European Junior Championships. She also played on winning teams at the Hungarian National Championships four times. Gulyás played on the Hungarian team at the 1980 Olympics, which just missed winning a medal. She was Hungarian Player-of-the-Year in 1973, 1975, and 1977.
