Donna Hobin

Donna Hobin played basketball for Nepean High School and the Ottawa Rookies, making the Canadian senior squad at age 18. She helped the Rookies win the 1974/75 Ontario Girl’s Junior title. She played at the 1975 World Championships and the Pan-American Games before playing with the Canadian team at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Hobin was the first female to be named basketball player-of-the-year at the 1975 Ottawa Associated Canadian Travellers sports awards.

Hobin played through 1978 with the Canadian national team, winning a bronze medal at the Cuba Cup. After the Olympics she attended Saint Mary’s University, playing with their team for two years. In the 1976/77 season she averaged 20.8 points and 9.2 rebounds a game. She later played two more seasons with the Ottawa Rookies and played in 1981/82 with the Red Fox women’s team in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Hobin founded Integrity Gardens and Landscaping in 2000 and ran that company until health issues led to retirement shortly before her death in 2025. She was inducted into the Saint Mary’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2024 and was a member of the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.
