Jayne McHugh attended the University of Pacific (UoP), graduating in 1982 with a degree in education. She later earned a masters’ in education. McHugh started playing with the US National Team in 1985 and played at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, also winning a bronze medal at the 1987 Pan American Games. She then played professionally for a few years with the San Jose Gold Diggers.
In 1989, McHugh was hired as an assistant coach at the University of Pacific and stayed there through 2005, serving as head coach from 2001-05. In 2005 she stepped down as head coach and took a position in administration in the athletic department at UoP. She has also taught at the Annunciation School, and later returned to her native Colorado, where she coached Valor Christian High School, leading them to four consecutive state 5A titles. McHugh is a member of the Stockton (CA) Hall of Fame and the University of Pacific Sports Hall of Fame.
