Angela Rock played volleyball at San Diego State University, where she was also a member of the track & field team, as a javelin thrower. She graduated with a degree in psychology and later earned masters’ degrees from National University and Azusa Pacific University. Rock was inducted into the SDSU Hall of Fame in 1991.
Rock was on the US National Team from 1985-90 when she briefly retired. In addition to her 1988 Olympics appearance, she won a bronze medal at the 1987 Pan American Games, and competed at the 1986 World Championships and Goodwill Games. She turned to beach volleyball after 1990, winning 21 events on the WPVA (World Professional Volleyball Association) Tour, including 12 in 1991.
In 1995 Rock became a volunteer assistant coach at the University of San Diego, starting her coaching career. She later coached club teams in San Diego, and in 1999 became head coach at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. She then became head coach at San Diego City College and then moved to UC Santa Barbara as an assistant for one year. Rock later coached at Cuyamaca College as head coach and then at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, California as head coach. She eventually became a firefighter in San Diego. Rock was inducted into the San Diego State Hall of Fame in 1991.
