Yoko Zetterlund competed in volleyball at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal in 1992. Zetterlund won gold at the 1995 World Grand Prix and the Canada Cup. She also won a silver medal at the 1993 NORCECA Championships, the 1994 Goodwill Games, and the 1995 Pan American Games, and added a bronze medal at the 1992 FIVB Super Four.
Zetterlund was born in San Francisco but grew up in her mother’s home country of Japan, and attended Waseda University in that country. She played professional volleyball in Japan in the 1990s, retiring in 1999. Zetterlund led the Daiei Orange Attackers to two Japanese pro championships. She later stayed in Japan where she became a color commentator and guest expert on sports and variety shows. She was also a writer and public speaker, and served on national administration boards for volleyball, basketball, and soccer leagues.
