Pat Powers attended Santa Monica College, helping them win the 1977 California Junior College title. He then transferred to Southern Cal, where the Trojans won the 1980 NCAA title, after placing second in 1979. He was twice an All-American for USC. Powers won a gold medal in volleyball at the 1984 Olympics, and then played on the US national team that won gold at the 1986 World Championships and won a silver at the 1986 Goodwill Games.
