Biography

With two silver medals, and one bronze, at pre-World War I Olympics, Oscar Grégoire was one of the outstanding representatives of the golden era of Belgian water polo in the early 20th century. Grégoire also won multiple Belgian championships with the Brussels SC team. At the 1908 and 1912 Olympics, Grégoire also represented Belgium in 100 metres backstroke but did not survive the heats in either year.

His father, also named Oscar Grégoire, was one of the founders of Royal Brussels SC in 1897. Five years later, as president of the club, he was instrumental in founding the Belgian Swimming Federation. Grégoire Sr. acted as the federation’s first president, until 1906.
