From 1906, Tibor Fazekas was an athlete with the MUE, but could not get a place in the team so, in 1910, he switched sports and became a water polo player and swimmer with FTC, and achieved significant water polo successes. From 1912-28, he won 32 caps with the Hungarian national team, and was a member of the Hungarian team at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. Fazekas also participated at the 1924 Olympics, and was a double European champion in 1926 and 1927. He was also a 12-time Hungarian champion before retiring from active sports in 1928.
