Stewart Barrett of the Clontarf Swimming Club in Dublin made his début on the Irish National water polo team in 1921, and played on the Irish water polo team that competed at the 1924 Olympics in Paris and lost its only match to Czechoslovakia by a score of 4-2. He was also a member of the Irish team that won a gold medal at the 1924 Tailteann Games, and a well-known rugby player.
