During the late 1950s and the early 1960s Viktor Ageyev was a member of the Soviet Union’s water polo team. Ageyev made his first of three Olympic appearances at the 1956 Melbourne Games where the Soviet team won the bronze medal. Four years later the team went one better, winning silver at the 1960 Roma Olympics with Ageyev scoring two goals during the tournament. At the 1964 Tokyo Olympics he won another bronze medal and scored two goals. At the European Water Polo Championships he won bronze in Budapest in 1958 and silver in Leipzig in 1962. Ageyev was a Master of Sports of the USSR (1955) and an Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR (1964).
